  • Thursday Oct. 12 - Nov. 16 (No class Nov. 9), 10-11AM Instructor: Stuart Liss, Professor of History and Filmology Come join us for this light and exciting 5-part series focusing on five unforgettable talents. Personalities include Barbara Walters, Grace Kelly, Eddie Fisher, Lucille Ball and Irving Berlin. This course will provide fun and fascinating insights into both their public work and fascinating private lives! We invite you to sit back as we go and take a walk down memory lane.   • THURSDAY Oct. 12 - Nov. 16 11:15AM-12:15PM Instructor: Steve Pollack, Performer and Lecturer Join our beloved Steve for a detailed look at the history of women in Western Civilization, from the point of view of the origin and persistence of patriarchy and the institutionalization of prejudice against women, silencing their voices and erasing their contributions and histories over several thousand years. It includes a look at the effects of the agricultural revolution, women in early religions, women as portrayed in the bible, women in ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome, and women of note from the Middle Ages/Renaissance through the Age of Enlightenment to modern times.

  • WEDNESDAYS Oct. 11 - Nov. 15 10:30-11:30AM Instructor: Renée Laevsky, Namaste Centered Yoga Therapy This wonderful session is for anyone who is interested in gently and safely strengthening their body in order to prevent injury, improve functional fitness, and move through day to day tasks with more comfort and ease. In addition to increased strength and flexibility, Chair Yoga also has positive effects on cellular aging, mobility, balance, mental health, and prevention of cognitive decline. The classes consist of a gentle and gradual flow of movements, all done while sitting in a chair or using a chair for support. Modifications are offered throughout each class, making it the perfect solution for individuals of all abilities

  • SUNDAY October 15 12:00-3:00PM We invite you to the JCC to check out this location and its Annual Fall Festival! The afternoon will be filled with community partners leading activities for all ages.     Thursday, June 8, 11AM - 1PM. We will tour the inside facility as well as the outside garden. The tour will be followed by a tea-tasting program with an explanation of tea culture in Japan and interactive tea making lesson. Participants will be given an in depth look at matcha culture, its history and how the tea is made. After that we will get to make a bowl of matcha and replicate an informal tea ceremony.     Monday, June 19, 11AM - 12:30PM. We will visit this special museum owned by J. Justin & Gwen Ragsdale, who will accompany us on this tour.     Monday, June 26, 11AM - 2:30PM. We will visit the ongoing collection of impressionism and post impressionism paintings. We will discuss the unique ways Albert Barnes believed that art should be displayed in a room and how his collection expanded during his lifetime, giving Dr. Barnes an opportunity to become n art educator. As you enter the parking lot of Shir Ami, drive all the way around to the back of the building and park. Classes are located through in the Atrium to the left of the entrance.

Cancellation

When appropriate, Golden Slipper Gems will issue a credit, not a refund.

Attendance

A course series generally runs between 4 and 8 weeks depending on the site and holiday schedule. Please note that each individual course is sold only on a course basis, Golden Slipper Gems does not sell individual classes. Courses are not pro-rated if you join the course late or you miss a class for any reason.

Guests

For out of town guests you may purchase one class for $5.  Guest passes cannot be purchased in lieu of course registration.

Credit

Credit will not be given after the first day of classes except in the event of illness or injury. Written documentation from a physician or nurse-practitioner is required.
